Staying Current on ERP: Serious Considerations for a Move to the Cloud
The pressure on companies to accelerate their processes to keep pace with the increasing speed of business is constant. Falling behind on the technology curve is a disadvantageous position to be in, especially as new technologies proliferate. Cloud technology is a prime example of this, and as Aberdeen research has shown, on-premises licenses for enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are increasingly giving way to cloud-based solutions.
However, before making any technology changes, there are concerns that companies must consider, and each company needs to evaluate their position and strategy based on their own environment. Legitimate questions arise regarding how current an organization must be and what is the best way to accomplish that goal, not everyone subscribes to the notion of being the first to adopt new technology. Should companies force technology changes on their organization even if the deployments conflict with established priorities? Will training be required to ensure organizational readiness, particularly for major changes? Does the level of customization of the ERP warrant a thorough evaluation of a new release to ensure there are no issues, possibly causing a delay in the adoption timing? Is a hybrid approach a viable option?
